Notice of Intended Prosecution for speeding

I have just received an NIP for speeding, doing 68 in a 50mph limit.

I have no doubt this was me. It was on a motorway, just before it ended and was my mistake, the limit reduced from 70 to 50 but I did not know the road and had obviously missed the sign/signs. I have a speed limiter on the car which I had set for 70 while on the motorway (I'm guessing the tolerance between the car and the camera accounts for the 2mph difference) and, of course, slowed down at the end of the motorway where the limit became 40.

My question is that everything I've read says the NIP must be served within 14 days. Mine is dated 14 days after the offence which was a Sunday so cannot have been posted until day 15. Can anyone advise if this is acceptable or worth questioning please?

That's what I thought Ivor.

ivor In that case the nip apprars to have been correctly served if the leasing company is the registered keeper. They are usually quick to issue nips so a deal of 14 days would indicate it is not the first nip issued.

If only you put as much effort into driving safely Hmm.

Thanks Nicky and others who have given useful advice. It took me a while to see what you were trying to explain but I got there in the end! Much appreciated, thank you

How much is it?

So many perfect people on here who never speed!!! As if! Every single one of us can get caught out. Around here lots of speed limits have been reduced and people are caught all the time by camera vans deliberately in the roads where the limits have just been reduced. A three lane motorway is nearly always 70. Some reduce to 50 as they near the end, eg the one that goes into Bristol (M32?). Most drivers who go over an arbitrary speed limit never kill anyone, especially on a motorway. Mostly it's a form of tax collection. Bad driving, not speed alone, is the problem on our roads. If the op has driven for 40 years without a speeding fine, I applaud her. I now have a road Angel to keep me legal.

Most speeding drivers never kill anyone??

As long as they got it in the post box on day 14 it is legally enforceable, that's when it was issued, not when it's received by you.

IvorHughJarrs · 13/04/2017 00:54

Exactly bojo. It was simply a mistake, a three lane motorway I'd never driven on before and I didn't see the limit went to 50 for a short while before the end. I am normally a very responsible driver and the fact my speed limiter was set below the 70mph limit I thought I was in shows that. I'll aim to leave it 40 years before my next one

If only I was perfect and never made mistakes like Flogging Hmm

Anyway thank you again to all those who have given such constructive information
