misconduct at work or illegal?

About a year ago I was questioned about what websites I'd visited on my work laptop, I was asked about a specific site that I'd never heard of. I explained I'd never heard of it, manager apologised for having to ask me and that was the end of that.

I've recently found out that another member of staff who had access to all usernames and passwords had logged onto the work system as me and visited a number of inappropriate websites. He was sacked and I was never formally told about it, as in work have not explicitly told me there was a link between his activity and me being questioned about my activity.

I work in an environment with children, the websites were inappropriate for this environment. Is this a legal matter that I should take further or is it a work matter? If it's a work matter then it's been dealt with but if it's a legal matter then I want to take it further, I'm so angry that he has compromised my employment and my character.

But your character and job have not been compromised have they, as after a proper investigation it was found that you had nothing to do with it.

I don't see why you want to take it any further, and frankly there's nowhere for you to take "it" (whatever that is) to.

it's a work matter, and it's already been dealt with. I don't understand why you feel you need to pursue it further when you have not been implicated? Confused

I'm not sure what you would want to 'take further' exactly. They found the culprit and dealt with him accordingly. When your manager spoke to you was it just an off the record conversation? No verbal or written warning or anything?

How have your employment and character been "compromised"?

What action do you imagine you'd be able to take?

If you are really that bothered could you ask HR to put a note on your file explaining why you were interviewed, the outcome of the investigation and that you were completely exonerated?
