maternity leave in new job

Hi
I'm currently on a secondment overseas but returning to the UK in January. Having failed to get pg in the last 2 years I am flabbergasted to find out (a week after accepting a new job!) I am expecting in June. Happy news but a shock....
The question is: what are my entitlements to maternity leave, job protection and maternity pay?

Are you currently employed by a UK company or by an overseas company - and is the new job with a new company?

Otherwise gov.uk is good for maternity leave rules and regs.

Thanks. Currently employed by a foreign non UK non EU employer.

So you were working in the Uk for your employer, then they sent you abroad for a secondment, and now they've offered you a job in the UK starting in January?
Have you been on your UK contract while you've been abroad?
Are you seconded to a different company while you've been abroad?

You won't qualify for maternity pay as you need to have worked for the employer for 26 weeks at the 15 week before the due date (25 weeks pregnant). You might be entitled to maternity allowance this page will help you work that out.
You will be entitled to maternity leave this page shows you the details of that. You have all the normal protections to job role etc.

Have you been paying UK NI contributions in your absence? That may determine your eligibility for MA. You wouldn't qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay as you would be pg on starting so timing doesn't work but your company may offer an enhanced pay policy or bonus to encourage you to return, especially if the role is senior or specialist. You would still be entitled to up to a year of leave, assuming you can afford this, to return to same role and retain any benefits during this time such as company car or travel allowance, private healthcare etc if relevant.

No I have not been making NI contributions as I was never recommended to do so. In any case it doesnt look like I am eligible but will re run the calculator to confirm.

Thanks for the info
