Are all wills available?

I wanted to see whether a will was available on Gov.uk I'm sure of the name and year of death (2012). I've searched through all the records for the surname for the whole year, and nothing.

Is there any reason the will wouldn't be available, does anyone know?

Are you cerain there was a will?

Have you double checked the results for 2012 and checked the years either side in case you got the year of death wrong?

I believe they are published only after death and only after an application has been made for the grant of probate and knowing how slow the state is presumably a good bit of time after that. Some are excluded (royal family).

Loads of people die without a will. Also look at the years after that. Eg it might have been 2013 before the family applied for the grant of probate after the death. I think you have to do certain things first before you apply.

The will is only available if there was a grant of probate. If the estate was held entirely in joint names and didn't include land, property or shares there will have been no need for a grant of probate.

Have you tried probatesearch.service.gov.uk ?
