I have had a will made through a solicitor. how do I go about making a couple of changes without having to pay all over again?

They should just be able to do the changes and charge a small admin fee, as they'll have kept the will on their system.

I'm a will writer and normally charge about £30 to make amendments.

Changes can be done by what is called a codicil. I would certainly recommend you go to someone who knows about how to do it though than not get the formalities correct and the result is invalidity.

Yes, as Jilly says it's very important to get it done properly. Manuscript amendments can invalidate a will.

Often getting a codicil drawn up by a different solicitor/willwriter will cost more than going back to the original firm, so the cheapest option will certainly be to go back to the firm which wrote your first will. I have to keep my wills digitally indefinitely (most firms will now keep everything in the cloud) so it's very easy to make amendments.
