Possible redundancy/ return to work.

I've been off work for a period of time. This week it has been announced that there will be redundancies at my place of work.
I was in the process of arranging a return to work meeting with my boss.
However, after a brief phone call from her today it appears that she wishes to discuss my probable redundancy rather than the return to work and the various implications of this.
Which meeting is more to my benefit? I have a feeling that she might suggest I don't return to work and take the offer of redundancy immediately . I have union representation but only at the work level not yet regional.
Should I make sure I am back at work before any discussion of redundancy takes place?

Will the fact that you've been off work for some time affect any possible redundancy payment? Maybe find that out first, and have someone (preferably from the union) in with you at any meeting. It's probably best not to discuss anything over the phone any more, and have everything in writing or face-to-face and witnessed.
