Quick question about something i signed

I had to sign a contract when i started my job that stated i wasn't allowed to speak to the press. I don't have a copy of this, i only have a copy of my employment contract.

Would this ban me from contacting an MP? Or would i need to request the signed disclosure to see exactly what it says before taking further action? I'm pretty sure they only said press/journalists.

Is it a work matter ? If not, I don't see the problem. After all, you are posting on Mumsnet - which is "published" so therefore "the press".

To me sounds like a standard clause - I have one to. It's to stop journalists harassing employees if a "juicy" story pops up. It also covers their back if something you said to a journalist caused a stock market crash Grin.

IANAL but I would have thought it is one of your fundamental human rights to contact your elected representative (although I have read of high courts judgements where judges have forbidden people from contacting their MPs - not sure about that Hmm). Which means you can't be prevented, irrespective of what you sign.

What do you want to contact the MP about? Is it a work related issue, or something completely different? You don't need to tell the MP where you work at first. You can give him a hypothetical example of what your issue is (if it's a work problem). He will be able to advise you from there.
