Quick question about redundancy terms

ArgyMargy · 24/10/2014 11:30

When I was last made redundant in January 2012, the payments were enhanced for those aged 45+, 50+ etc. I'm at risk again and the company I'm with now hasn't mentioned any enhancements for age. Someone said that it might now be illegal (i.e. age discriminating). Do any of you legal beagles know about this? If it's not illegal I will want to suggest this enhancement. Thank you!

Any enhancement to the statutory redundancy would be based on your company policy and therefore you would have to speak to your HR section.

there are legal minima for redundancy payments, anything over that is just goodwill.

argue, you've nothing to lose.

You may get better answers on the Employment Issues board where there are some HR experts.

ArgyMargy · 26/10/2014 17:46

OK thanks prh47bridge I'll give that a go.

Some companies offer enhancements to older employees to encourage them to volunteer. They are often more expensive to employee and can be seen as less motivated.
