Former owner still using this address

I'm a little concerned that the former owner of my house is still using my address (I've owned the house for 10+ years). Last week we had a parcel delivered to his name, this address, which when I contacted the sender (a company) they said it was addressed correctly. We also received court papers a couple of years ago for him - he was using this address to sue someone. I sent it all back to the court and heard nothing more.

I'm a bit worried that he may be using this address for credit etc (haven't had any other mail for him for years though). Is there any way of checking this out? Credit reference agencies can presumably only tell what is happening in your own name.

We accidentally had something delivered to an old address. Easily done if you have an account with a retailer which you haven't used in while or forgotten to delete from an account (like Amazon which holds multiple addresses). I don't know if you can check if he has a redirection set up with Royal Mail but they usually limit the length of time and number of renewals per name.

I can't imagine he still has redirection after 10 years (actually nearer 15), but I suppose it could be that he had our address still stored on a website he hasn't used for ages. If it wasn't for the court thing a few years ago I wouldn't be bothered, but that must have been deliberate.

credit issues go with names, not addresses.

return anything else as 'not known' and don't worry.

Thanks, the parcel has gone back (it was recorded delivery, DH signed for it without realising) so it was able to go back recorded too.

I second the possibility of an old online account. My EBay account still has my two old addresses stored (have no idea how to delete) and I could easily be careless and click the wrong address for a new purchase.

Yes, it would have to be very old (best part of 15 years since he moved out) but it is possible. The item was something you would only need to buy once in a blue moon.

We used to get huge amounts of stuff for the people we bought our house from and for their extended family. For a while we had loans companies chase them and they must have been hugely in debt. We also had the police come looking for them Hmm. We get post occasionally now but just send it all back marked 'not lived here for x years' or 'not known at this address'.

We also had a big problem with phone calls for the people who had our phone number before us (at a different address). Including a message from the school asking them to pick up their son (about a year after we took the number Shock) and the council asking about his taxi registration renewal.

Unfortunately some of the postees/callees refused to believe that it was not our problem.
