I have tried every way I can think of to find one. I am worried about my ex's increasing instability, alcohol intake and the effect this is having on the children. It has been months and months. I keep hearing that (unless there is physical violence) there is no official/legal recognition of DV. And nothing can be done on the alcohol front. Basically, until something really bad happens to the childen while with him, there is nothing i can do. That cannot be right?

If you mean Domestic Violence why do you not talk to the social service in the locality your ex lives in.

Yes, domestic violence. Thank you - i am speaking to social services, they have offered mediation which he does not attend, and are now telling me to hurry the legal proceedings up as much as i can- but it will still take months and months and meanwhile i am fearful. I would so like to have two hours with a lawyer who has seen it before and can give me tips to stay ahead of the game / knows how abusive men's minds work and how to keep them as stable as possible for the children / anything like that outside the rigid confines of the law. I have spoken to several lawyers who only say: it is normal for children to be in a right state for days before and after contact weekends, they will never say anything against their father so you will look petty and vindictive if you apply to reduce contact, the father's right to contact is like a human right which cannot be varied unless there is immediate physical danger etc etc.

perhaps if the German social services could recommend a sympathetic lawyer you will make better progress
