Cars parked on pavement

Is there anything I can do about cars parking on the pavement (mainly on residential streets)? It is so infuriating that I have to push my baby into the road to get road the cars parked so far onto the pavement I cannot squeeze past!

Is it worth reporting it to the police? From what I can gather via google the law is quite vague on pavement parking.

Is there enough room for an emergency vehicle to get past if the cars were parked entirely on the street?

If the answer is no then I doubt that the police would be interested.

A local council have banned it completely for this reason. They now fine people if the tyres are on the kerb. Speak to your local council and get the ball rolling.

Bunbaker ... Ironically enough shortly after they introduced this rule, there was then an incident where an ambulance couldn't get past the cars parked on the road. Sad

If they were considerate enough to leave room for a pushchair or wheelchair to get past I wouldn't mind them parking on the pavement! The other thing is they all have driveways and garages on my street as the estate was only built 8 years ago so there's no excuse in my opinion!

We had an incident in the local large town where someone died from heart attack because an ambulance couldn't get past the parked cars to get to him in time.

I agree that it is irritating that cars park on the pavements and there isn't enough room. Unfortunately most of the houses on narrow streets were built long before people had cars and there isn't any room in front of the houses to provide off road parking, nor is there anywhere near the houses to provide off road parking.

Think of a typical northern town with rows of terrace houses.

I just wouldn't buy a house without off road parking, but others aren't as fortunate as me to have the choice.

I don't know what the answer is.

In that case you should complain lauren

That's awful that someone died because an ambulance couldn't get past. :-(

I've emailed the local PCSO so hopefully he can sort it out or point me in the right direction.

No real advice, but it's even worse for wheelchairs and scooters that can't bump down the kerb. If there's no suitable diversion, they are effectively completely blocked.

Also as selfish as people who park across dropped kerbs.
