Applying for citizenship without a job

Was wondering if there is any point in applying for citizenship without a job? I've had ILR for 9 yrs now. Separated from British H last year, never been in work here but I don't claim benefits either (apart from child benefit and tax credits). Is there any point in jumping through all the hoops required and paying £1000 or is it likely to be a complete waste as I'll be refused anyway?

you wont be refused for not being in work - it is irrelevant. But if you haven't got the £1000 to spare then you need to ask why you need it right now. It does make it easier to apply for jobs etc since you can just say you are British but even so, you have ILR so employers should be fine with this. Another benefit is that you can leave Britain for a few months if you want to and still be able to come in again without any questions. I think with ILR they can take it away if you leave the country for a long period (cant remember how long) but unless you have plans to move to another country for a while then this isn't really relevant to worry about.

Basically it is nice to get it but not essential for now if you cant really afford it. It is a big hassle to do the tests, the paperwork etc.

Doesn't matter if you're not working for citizenship

But it is expensive. Unless you're planning to leave for 2 years + you can do everything you need with ilr

Thanks for the replies. It's true, I can stay here with irl, but I'm not feeling very safe, anything could happen and I might suddenly be forced to leave. Also, I would really like to be able to vote... I consider myself Scottish and have been feeling a bit left out recently ;-)
