I hope some of you wise munsnetters can advise me on this as am a bit worried...
We have received a letter from TFL with a penalty notice for stopping on a red route at a time I was driving the car. The trouble is, the letter has been forwarded from our old address as it turns out DP who is registered owner of car didn't change the address on registration documents when we moved over a year ago!
So, the fine has been outstanding and has increased to £200.
We have paid it although I would have challenged it if I had got it on time as (1) the photo is really bad and doesn't show any red route markings it just looks like I'm in aqueue of traffic and (2) I think I know where it is and there are loads of legitimate parking bays there. I always park in a bay there is always space so I wouldn't even think of chancing it on the double red lines.
The thing is, I am really worried now as I have been driving pretty much every day, I thought law abidingly, but what if there are more fines? A parking ticket that blew away? A time I popped into the bus lane to let an ambulance past?
So, legal brains, if there are more fines do we have to just suck it up and pay them? Would we have any recourse to appeal even at this late stage? Or would it be possible if say there were several fines that we could say we have already paid for the fact that we didn't change the address and just pay the original fines? (I have heard before that if you eg get caught every day in one week going the wrong way down a one way street and plead that you really didn't know they may only fine you once).
