Motor insurance claims process...

I was rear ended 3 weeks ago Friday coming so I am dealing with other person's insurance as 3rd party. (accepted liability)
So my car was picked up by the bodyshop 2 weeks ago yesterday. They kept saying the insurance company hd not authorised them to start work yet (but car was still with them)
Keep being promised callbacks, updates etc but obviously get none!
So, I called insurance comp today again and they said my car had been moved to hoppers? (from bodyshop I'm guessing and that it said in notes 'possible total loss.
I'm not sure now what is happening. Does this mean they have rejected the bodyshop estimate and won't be repairing or does it just mean that someone else is inspecting it again?
I'm confused now and don't even really know where my car is.

Phone the insurance company and speak with them firmly. Write what questions you want answered down so that you dont forget anything, also write down who you speak to and what department plus date and time incase you need it later on down the line. Noone on MN can answer these specific questions for you unfortunatley.

unless your car is only a few years old, a rear-ending will write it off as the insurance companies run a cartel to make sure that work is as expensive as possible.

it may be just panel damage, in which case you can get replacements from scrappers and get a reasonable price to fit them. If the frame is distorted or buckled then it probably is a total loss. In which case you want to get as much money as you can for it.

so raise merry hell with your insurers, complain, demand to speak to someone higher - the usual thing with big companies.

I suspect what's happened is there is something wrong with the third parties insurance which is what is causing the delay. I would get your own insurer involved, get them to do the repair and then charge to the third party. hope you've had a hire car.

Agree with mrsladybirdface. I've been in the industry for 10yrs I would suspect there is an issue on the third parties policy and this is the cause for delay. You need to be discussing this with your insurers as due to dpa the third party insurer will only give you limited information. Ur insurer will be able to pry more info from them. Provided the third party insurer agree their insured is liable and their policy is valid your insurer can deal and make a recovery of there costs from the third party insurer. This will mean that your ncd will not be affected and the claim will be recorded as non fault.
