Do 4 people need power of attorney?

Dh has told dd that she , along with her cousin, uncle (DH's borther) and DH will have 'power of attorney' for her grandfather, Dh's father. DS, who is the elder of the two, has not been told this.

What does it mean? Why do 4 people need power of attorney? Is it significant that DS has been passed over for his younger sister or doesnt it matter?

How old is dd?

I would say that 4 is fairly unusual and it's usually 1 or 2.

Dsis and I have Power of Attorney for our mother, and dh and his brother have it for their mum. They have one alternate (who takes over in case of the two main attorneys being unavailable), and dsis and I have an alternate each.

Maybe, by having four attorneys, your dh is hoping that there will be no need for alternates?

Have you asked him why? it seems excessive. How does his (your?) son feel about it? Four is excessive, unless there are issues of geography involved.

2 for financial matters and 2 for welfare perhaps? People usually choose attorneys on basis of their capability, geographical proximity and ability to work together. It is high risk to only have one attorney.

Oh I see: perhaps dd is the alternate for her father and her cousin the alternate for her father, that would make sense
