Does anyone know any Law relating to fast track assessment/procedures of needs?

Particularly with regard to adult social services, equipment needed?

Hello, you might be referring to Fast Track Assessment for Continuing Healthcare funding, which is via the NHS. Here is a link to the government website that outlines the process and checklist used.

The needs assessment must be conducted by a multi disciplinary team including health and social care. I hope that helps? Best of luck.

This link also provides more information about the assessment process.

CHC funding is what you need. Ask your district nurses who you hopefully already know as they will be involved in the paperwork. The other form to ask them to consider completing if it hasn't already been done is a DS1500.

Thanks for the replies.

My mum already receives continuing health care ie carers visit twice a day and the district nurse, hospice nurse visits etc. So funding has been agreed for health care.

However before she was discharged from the hospice (to come and stay with me) the Occupational Therapist did an assessment of needs and requested urgently a high dependency chair, he named the chair she would need. so she doesn't have to spend all day, every day, just lying in bed. That was 8 weeks ago. She is unable to sit in a 'normal' chair as she has advanced cancer in her spine etc and needs support to enable her to sit upright. She cannot walk etc.

Social services are saying 'we do not stock that type of chair. We will need to visit with a rep'.

I have been trying to find out what legislation covers this type of thing. OT has already done an assessment, named the chair etc and faxed it to social services stating it is needed urgently

From what I can make of the legislation I can find, CHC is funded solely by NHS.

Chair OT recommended is not being funded by NHS. OT has requested funding from social care. Who seem very reluctant to fund and im not even sure who is responsible for funding.

Only legislation I can find which suggests that Social Care are responsible is "Chronically sick and disabled person act 1970 section 2 (Provision of welfare)

1 (e) The provision of assistance for that person in arranging the carrying out of any works of adaptation in his home or the provision of any additional facilities designed to secure his greater safety, comfort or convenience"

Do you think this legislation would include the provision of being able to sit in a chair?

I work in care and getting equipment - especially non standard - can take a long time. Sometimes these specialist chairs are made to order.
I'd suggest contacting your local MP and your district and county councillors to get things moving quickly - this usually works.
If ( a long shot) your mother is vegetarian or vegan the charity Vegetarian for Life might be able to help.
