Did the person plead guilty at mags and is being sent to crown for sentencing? Or is a trial going to take place at crown?

It's a real piece of string. There should be a case management hearing pretty speedily, and there may be a few more interim hearings.

A trial can take months to get a slot, I'm afraid.

the case will go to magistrates court but will be going to crown court for a serious accident just wonded how long would need to wait dreading it :(.

Unfortunately it's how long is a piece of string really. Cases are often held up or adjourned for a number of reasons. Are you a victim or witness in the case? ( obviously please don't tell us any details about it)

ilovesprouts · 23/06/2014 21:06

Victim. Won't go into details.

Can be anything from 6 months to 3 years I'm afraid. It's dependant on multiple factors. But I'll give you a rough timeline:

First Hearing will be around 2/3 weeks after charge. Case committed to Crown Court.
Preliminary Hearing at Crown Court - around 1 month later
Plea & Case Management Hearing - again 4 - 6 weeks although dependant on charges and other factors.
Trial - how long is a piece of string.

We are currently booking in trials for February next year

Have you been contacted by Victim Support, OP?

ive got a feeling they will offer us compensation so they wont have to go to crown court .

It doesn't work like that. Any civil (compensation) case is different from a criminal case. They can't offer to pay compensation to get out of facing criminal charges.

I see thanks for clearing that up .
