Six months ago, had some building development done in our home. An electrician fitted a new fuse box and in a new built room, fitted electrics.
Only just discovered that 3 double electric wall sockets in two rooms backing onto new build, no longer work. These rooms have been used for storage till recently but before building works, the wall sockets were regularly used and worked fine.
At the time of the building works, I remember the electrician saying something about checking the electrics for those two rooms adjoining new room. So he must have noticed a potential issue. The ceiling lights work fine but not the wall sockets.
Builder is currently not responding to my queries. I'm hoping that the electrican can come out and do something simple to reconnect the electricity to those sockets. However, if it's a major problem that's going to involve hacking down parts of walls of new build and those 2 rooms, can I expect my builders to cover the bill?
The issue really is - given it's 6 months down the line and I've only just discovered the problem, what are my rights? I'm certain that the disconnected electrics has been caused by the electrician/building works but can I prove this?
If anyone can advise (and I've also posted in Property/DIY section) that'd be great. The background context is that these builders caused 2 previous issues at the end of works - one potentially life threatening to the family and one potentially damaging to new fittings - separate to the building works. So not a great track record.
