Help with immigration barrister?

Dear mumsnetters,

thanks in advance for all your help.

Just today I became aware of a terrible situation of a lady I see occasionally when I go into her shop.

She has been in the UK for several years, but unfortunately she does not have a work permit. Her employers work her like a slave, 6 days a week, holidays not paid (I think she has taken two weeks off in the 8 years she has been here). She gets paid cash in hand, well below minimum wage etc.

I want to help her and see if there is a way for her to get a UK visa. she is from outside the EU.

She is really desperate, but she needs to help her large family back home and she can't simply go back as there are no jobs in her country.

do you know/are you an immigration solicitor? she paid somebody to get a visa but the person run away with her money.

I am happy to pay not only for the solicitor, but also to sponsor her. unfortunately I am an employee myself so I can not give her a job myself. Is there any other way she can stay in the country?

I need to be vague as she asked me for help but she is very scared of the authorities.

I would appreciate your help: as I said, I am happy to pay for your time in order to get advice.

thanks in advance.

Thank you babybarrister. I know it is a long shot, but I would really love to help her. It is very sad to see people being exploited. Thanks ahain.

sorry.

I can't marry her. I am female myself happily married with two children.

She mentioned that there could be a chance of getting the visa if she lives here for 10 years, is that correct?

She lives in London by the way.

Thanks for all your help!

Unfortunately she has already been victim of a scam. she gave money to a guy to regularise her position and he did a runner.

I dont want to give more details as she is really very scared of being found out.

two more questions: could I hire her as an au pair (she is over 30 not from any Commonwealth country)?

if I decide to open a business, could I sponsor her and hire her? would she need to prove that she is highly skilled or similar? I am afraid she is not highly skilled.

thanks again.
