Dn is due to move into a flat tomorrow.

Company called at 4.55pm (they close at 5pm) to say they had some survey today and the electric shower wasn't safe and it was being removed.

Dn asked what it was being replaced with and they said nothing, just a shower on the taps.

One of the reasons the place was chosen was because of the electric shower.

Can they refuse to sign the contract tomorrow or say they'll only sign it if they agree to install an electric shower?

All help appreciated as I am crap at legal stuff!

If he hasn't signed anything then yes, he can refuse to move in. Has he paid a holding deposit? He could lose that, although a small claims court might rule in his favour.

If he's signed a contract then it's probably too late to get out of, although he could say that he expects a reduction on the rent to cover the loss of an amenity....

Nothing has been signed yet.

They asked if they could see it before they sign the contract and they said no, there wasn't time and could only see it after Confused.seems fishy to me.

Seems very suspicious! Have they not seen the place at all?? There is no way I'd sign anything until seeing the flat.

Is this student accommodation? I remember student landlords bring completely unscrupulous!

They saw it a few weeks ago! No mention of faulty shower and no, not students but they are young professionals :)

do not sign and do not accept keys. That means the tenancy doesn't exist.

and yes, who asks someone to sign without reading unless they are dodgy?

well, at least they've removed something faulty - but it all sounds very iffy.
