Work don't believe I have depression

I've recently been disciplined and placed on an indefinite final written warning by my employer because of disruptive behaviour including being short with colleagues and having "negative body language".

Around the time my mood deteriorated, I was diagnosed with depression by my GP, she wanted to sign me off but I couldn't afford to live on SSP. I've since been on medication and have a psychiatrist and community coordinator. In my grievance meeting my employer stated that because I've never handed in a sick note, they think I'm lying about the depression and therefore will make no allowances for it affecting my mood and ability to cope with stress.

What should I do? I'm finding it so hard to think straight and feel so bullied by them.

well since you didn't tell them about it previously, they were unable to take it into account when considering your behaviour, which is why they've disciplined you for it. Suggesting you're lying is deeply unpleasant however you are easily able to supply proof, with dates, care of a letter from your GP (which I think you may have to pay for). I'm pretty sure however that for any disability discrimination protection, it needs to be a long term condition (& that they know about it)
In practical terms, other than handing a note in, put some pressure on them to come up with a solution in terms of making suitable adaptation to your working day that alleviates stress. Ask HR to come back to you with that. YOu can't expect them to have made allowances for you on something you never told them about. Now you've told them, back it up with proof and ask them for help

Your doctor could write you a fit note stating what adjustments your employer needs to make.

Yes, just supply them with a fit note from your GP.
