Item not as picture

I ordered a prom dress for DD1, which has arrived promptly in three days as promised.

However, except for being blue and full length it's nothing like the picture.

It has broad integrated straps, picture is strapless and non of the waterfall frills on the front of the skirt, for which DD choose it.

It's a perfectly serviceable dress, but a bit dull.

My problem is the company don't do free returns, which is just about fair enough for size.

But paying recorded delivery, when basically they have sent me the wrong item (deliberately to save constantly updating their web site, I suspect) makes me Angry

Any suggestions for how to word a very strongly worded Email telling them to send a returns label, if DD decides she hates the dress as I think she might.

Thanks

I agree it seems unfair that you have to fork out for return postage when they sent the wrong item. I would send them a strong email or is it possible to speak to someone? Keep it polite but firm. I personally think you nowhere by being rude (not suggesting you will be), be insistent and check out your rights as the consumer.

Good luck.

Sorry Starballbunny, just noticed that you asked for suggestions on wording the email. I'm not brilliant at that but hopefully someone will be along shortly with some examples.

I waffle, I may have to resort to DH who is good at wording things, (he's the son of two English teachers), but he takes forever to get round to doing it.

It's just DD was so happy to have found a dress she really liked, after doing piles of revision for her mocks. It's made me cross.

Thanks all, of course I should have waited until DD got home, she likes the dress they have sent and it fits, just (very just, less chocolate and more exercise until May).

More walking and a bit of trampolining or cycling as a break from revision will be a good thing.

Although I'm still tempted to email a couple of photos to the company as it was jolly cheeky.

Oh and don't worry, DD1 is a strapping size 12 and the least likely teen to get an eating disorder on the planet (which is just as well as she has a couple of DDs who need keeping on the straight and narrow). She also has a hobby for which being fitter is good.
