'unusual' problem regarding house sale?

We are buying a new house, the selling of the house is not simple and quiet horrible circumstances.

We have been waiting for the inventory for the new house and got an email from our solicitor today:

"They do not propose to send sellers property information forms and fixtures and fittings form as they say the property is sold as seen as the sellers have no personal knowledge of the property. They propose for the current occupiers to complete the forms however as they are not the sellers these could not be relied upon."

Is this a normal response? what does sold as seen mean? When we last saw it the house was full of furniture and beds etc - does it mean we get all of that?
We are concerned about this because if there is no fixture and fittings list, then what if when we get the keys they have gutted the place? we would have no come back.

Can anyone advise?

thank you for everyone that has posted useful messages, i have taken it all on board and i think we have more of a plan of action. it has made us take a step back and look to protecting ourselves more. so we will be speaking to our solicitor.

less thanks to the slightly hysterical posters comparing a house sale to sexual slaves! Hmm you have to love mumsnet sometimes! take all kinds i guess!

If you choose to deliberately misread what I wrote and tell me I'm hysterical so that you don't have to engage with the substance of what I said, again, that's your lookout. Underlying principles can apply to very different situations and that is the case for any argument that "if I didn't buy it, someone else would have"

Send our good wishes to the grandmother and her family. I hope she finds somewhere to live.

of course i will tell her that some random from mumsnet said good luck.

i hope she finds somewhere else too, quiet awkward if she had to camp in the garden Hmm

But presumably not as awkward as being in situ when you rock up with a removal van.....

Grin no that would be worse!
