Innotab 2 touch screen unresponsive out of box but lost receipt?!?!? Help

I pulled my daughters xmas present (Innotab 2) out to set it up so she can use it right away xmas morning and the touch screen is not responding to any form of touch. I was so relieved that I had the smarts to open before hand and that this tragedy didn't happen xmas morning.
I planned to return it today and low and behold..my receipt is no where to be found. To make matters worse, I paid cash (not like me) so not even a bank statement to show.
I cannot return it to store without receipt (not even for exchange). I don't want refund, but a functioning replacement is warranted.
I call Vtech and they will replace in time for xmas but I have to show copy of proof of purchase. Why me? Why cant these people stand behind their product regardless? I know this is my fault but I am so angry with myself that I have to find some way to shed some blame.

I dont know what to do....I cant give it to her this way.

Anyone want to send me a photocopy, scan, picture, of proof of purchase for an Innotab 2 dated within the last 90 days?

The shop cannot demand a receipt when you are rejecting faulty goods. Many shops will refund or replace faulty goods without a receipt. Their only ground for refusing to do so is if they argue that you bought the item somewhere else. In the absence of any form of documentary proof, the say so of someone who was with you at the time of purchase would be enough. If they won't accept that you should write to them telling them that you will take the matter to the small claims court if they fail to refund your money and setting a deadline for them to do so.

They will not even listen to my circumstance without a receipt. Store policy....Absolutely NO refunds without receipt. Uhggg

The store policy is in breach of the law. The goods are faulty and you have rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979. The courts will not be interested in their policy. As long as you have some kind of proof that you bought this item from them, e.g. the say so of someone who was with you when you bought the goods, the court will order the shop to refund your money. Before making a claim through the courts you must write to the shop as per my last post.

If you can tell them the date and approximate time you bought it, they can check back on the till to get proof of purchase.

Which shop is it?

You don't want a refund though, just an exchange. Reason with them, I'm sure they'll see sense and sort it out for you.
