New Central heating system faulty

hi. After a long running saga which involved 2x visits from Worcester Bosch, it turns out that the new CH system my plumber has installed will never work as the HW cylinder (MAIN brand) and the Worcester Bosch boiler are not compatible. I've had a letter today from WB confirming this, they say the cylinder is not compatible with the boiler. I also spoke to MAIN who confirmed that their cylinder wasn't compatible, and any workaround would render the warranty invalid and would mean shutting down one of the safety features. They say this is documented that the two systems are not compatible and the installer should have checked first.

I'm now stuck! My installer is insisting his change will work, but I've told him I'm not letting him do any more work unless he can provide written confirmation that both manufacturers agree, but I've a feeling he's not going to be able to do this

Whenever I call now, his wife answers the phone. I can't get hold of him.

What can I do here? Do I have any legal comeback? Surely he can't install something that he should have checked wasn't compatible? what should I do next?

I've got an official complaint letter drafted, but should I just cut my losses and get another installer to put a different cylinder in? At the moment my central heating intermintently cuts out and I don't want to face winter with a 16 mo and no heating

Under the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 any work must be completed with reasonable care and skill, be completed within a reasonable time, use materials that are fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality, and any goods supplied must be as described.

If the plumber selected the boiler and hot water cylinder it sounds like you have a case that he hasn't used reasonable care and skill. You are on weaker ground if you asked him to install components you had chosen yourself.

Assuming he chose the components he must fix the installation. If that means putting in a different cylinder he will have to do that at his own expense. If he refuses to do anything you should see if he is a member of a trade association as they may have a dispute resolution scheme. If all else fails you can have the work done by someone else and reclaim the costs through the small claims court.
