Right to copy of letters?

I've got myself into crazy bother with the Tax Credit Office... Somehow I was overpaid for 3 years running (over £3.5K total) and I've had a letter saying that they're going to start debt recovery soon. Thing is, I'm sure they sent me a letter about a year ago when I was disputing the payments to say that it was all fine and I didn't need to pay anything after all... BUT I DIDN'T KEEP IT. Arggh. Do I have any legal right to request copies of all the letters I've had from the Tax Credit Office in the last 18 months or so. Freedom of information or something? .

I think you need to make a request under the data protection act. The most they can charge you is £10.

Thank you so much I will try that. Feeling very foolish about not keeping copies and a bit sick about the thought of all that money! Thanks again.
