I was away at the time my home insurance expired and returned to find my renewal invitation, advising they would automatically take payment unless I contacted them to cancel the policy, another letter saying I owed them for the cost of the policy because my card had been declined (the one they had on file expired during the year) and another, saying the policy had been cancelled.
The renewal invitation was horrifically high, the last letter made me think they'd given up trying to get me to renew, so I went elsewhere.
Arrived home today to find a letter saying I have an outstanding balance made up of a £70 cancellation fee and about £10 for the pro-rata cover for the premium for renewal date from the date they cancelled the policy for non-payment.
Obviously I need to dig out my paperwork to see what T&C's I agreed to when purchasing, but just wondering, is this a pressure tactic/empty threat? Has anyone had a similar problem?
I hate the auto-renewal thing, quite disappointed at myself for not picking up on it when I bought the policy
