How can I get more details on a Magistrates case?

Is it even possible?

In the newspaper today I see that my ex-h has been in the local magistrates court and fined. I would like to get any further details I can as we are in the middle of a child access case brought by him.

Hope this makes sense.

Contact the journalist?

MsNobodyAgain · 10/10/2013 18:28

No journalist name. It was in a local paper under a general 'court round up' page.

The newspaper will have phone and email contacts, you could try and see if you can get hold of the journo that way. It's probably not a massive newsroom.

Thanks. I checked the back of the paper and there are a couple of email addresses on there.

Good luck. :)

Phone the court

MsNobodyAgain · 10/10/2013 19:14

I suppose I should have thought of that. I was just wondering if there was any public right to information. The court will tell me one way or the other hopefully.

I think you might be able to ask for a transcript, but I suspect it'll not be cheap. The public have a right to see the case as it happens, but it's too late for that, obviously.

Phone the court and ask to speak to the results office. They may be willing to give you the result.

Alternatively phone your local police force, ask tobe put through to the witness care unit that covers your area. Give your ex's name and the court and date he appeared at and ask if they will provide you with the result. Court results are matter of public record so they should be willing tp provide you with this information. I work in a witness care unit and i would pass this sort of information on if someone asked me.

Transcripts are only made at crown court

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 11/10/2013 13:23

I think op already knows the result; he was found guilty and fined. She wants more detail, which is why I suggested talking to the journo who actually attended. (Assuming s/he actually attended, and didn't just phone the clerk for results.)
