I was selling 3 things on behalf of a friend. Chap says he wants one. Fine, gave address, arranged a time etc. Chap rings and asks if he can have a discount on 2. I replied no, discount for all three. He agreed, said he'd stick to just 1, and we went ahead.

He arrived early before I got there and decided he wanted two of these things instead, and my friend, who is not confident and has disabilities (hence me handling the sales) lets him leave without paying for the second. He promised to send a cheque.

Needless to say, 8 weeks, multiple phone calls and promises the cheque's in the post have come to nothing and he now doesn't even answer the phone. He lives miiiiiiiiles away, although it's not impossible for me to drive up there....just not sure what it'd achieve?

He owes around £500. Do we have any options?

SO ANGRY!!!!!!

Yes. Make a claim against him if he fails to pay.

www.gov.uk/make-money-claim-online

Write to him and advise him that you will be doing so within a set period if he refuses to pay. If you follow the link and process it sets out you can do this online. He will have the choice to pay, partially pay or refuse to pay.

If it is latter there will be a hearing (you don't need to attend). Provide all the evidence for this to make your case. If a judgement is made in your favour he will be the proud owner of a CCJ.

Hopefully it won't come to that and he'll decide he wants to pay more than he doesn't want a CCJ however...
