Renting/landlord question (basic)

I'm renting but I was just wondering whether landlords are allowed to'check up' without warning?

I want to put up a mirror and some temporary wall stickers for DDs nursery, but was told this wouldn't be allowed by the letting agency(they said no changes to walls/fittings are allowed) so I was thinking I'll just do it and fill in mirror hole and take down nursery pictures before moving so its not known about, but are landlords allowed to just turn up and check on this sort of thing?

No, they have to give you 24 hours notice.

Asked DP, he owns a letting agent. He cannot just turn up without. 24 hours notice, it's harassment if he does it again.

Check your lease. It will say in there what notice the Landlord has to give you before turning up, it will also say what you are allowed to do re putting up mirrors and stickers etc.

The lease is always the key!

They have to give you notice but they do have the right to do an inspection during your tenancy - I think my agency do it once a year. At which point your mirror would be discovered, unless you're going to put it up and take it down for every visit, in which case you might as well just get on that doesn't need to be hung on the wall.

If it's not a heavy mirror you could get some of those 'no more nails' hooks, they don't leave any marks when you take them off.
