Deeds to house

Hi.
My mum passed away recently and I am in the process of sorting out her things. I've paid the remainder of the mortgage off and have now received a letter from the mortgage company asking me where I would like the deeds to go.
Am I right in thinking I want them to go to the solicitor who is doing the conveyancing?
Oh and do they have a name on them - do I need to have them put in my name to go to the solicitor to be then put in the new owners name once it all gets finalised? Or will they remain on my mums name until the sale goes through?

Sorry, it's all a bit of a minefield and there's only me doing anything to get things sorted.

Thanks.

If the property is unregistered then the solicitors who are acting in the sale will need them. They will also need a sealed copy of the grant of probate. If the property is already registered then you can keep them or give them to the new owners if they have some historical interest for them. The property will stay in your mum's name until it is sold and the solicitors will transfer it into the name of the new owners. Hope this helps. Smile
