Talk to me about divorce timescales please?

Long story short, BIL has filed for divorce in England. He filed at the start of the month and the papers say that it was posted out on 10th June.

Can someone tell me clearly what happens now?

I think that ex-SIL has to acknowledge the papers within a specific number of days (8 days from the 10th?), and this acknowledgement is then sent to BIL. How long should it take the court to send the acknowledgement after/if they receive it?

She then has a further 21(?) days to decide to go ahead or contest the divorce.

If there is no contest (fingers crossed), then BIL can file for the nisi and then 6 weeks later the absolute.

Does this all sound right?

I filed mine a couple of months ago.
I got the signed acknowledgement of service back from the court about a week after ex had signed it (although I have no idea how quickly he sent to back to them / they sent it on).
I sent the forms for my nisi about 6 Jun, court replied 18 Jun (received by me 24 Jun) and is down for decision 15 Jul - thats the nisi.
Then can apply for absolute 6 weeks after that, don't know how long that takes - but on the above timescale another 2/3 weeks?

Ah.

I suspect she hasn't acknowledged it then. Stupid cow

She left him and started seeing someone else before she left very quickly. BIL has just filed under the standard time elapsed rule, he hasn't gone for adultery or anything; so why she wants to drag it out I would have no clue. Then again, it could just be a really slow post from the court.

Just want him to be able to avoid the bailiffs to serve the papers with all the associated costs!

So I filed with court on 5th April both they and my solicitor sent acknowledgment of service to him by registered mail which he failed to collect from sorting office! Solicitor then sent by regular mail which ExH took over three weeks to sign so we are now at June 1st. I signed and returned immediately, solicitor sent to court. So probably got there 7th June no date from court yet for it to be heard. So we are nearly three months on now and no further forward. Doing nothing is a very effective stalling tactic.
