my sons father and i are not together. he pays me maintainance but has decided he is putting the amount down. if i went to csa i know i would get double of what he gives me as he earns a good wage with no bills to pay plus he never see's his son which also means he has to pay me more as i provide everything for his son. does he have a right to this? and what does csa payment exsactly pay for. i was informed it was to pay for general living expense's and up keep of a child...ie, bills, nappies, food ect. his fatherbhas decided that he will buy cloths when he thinks he needs them and my maintainance will be cut. can anyone give me some advice or info on this??

The CSA calculation is pretty straightforward. 15% of NET pay for the first child I recall, mine finished last October.

And you can spend it on what you want.

If u are happy with ur current amount, telling him what the csa wud make him contribute might be enough to scare him into shutting up. Sad but true.

The csa is a hassle and a bit shit but if he tried to lower that's the route I wud use, as making you ask for ds's new clothes is not on.

csa defiantly the route if he was to refuse to pay he would get in serious arrears they can shut his bank account down have agents to track him and he will have to pay arrears back which means he will pay more than the 15% until it is payed off ...why should you get less money children are not cheap and unless he has a valid reason he should not put you in that situation... what if he was to keep lowering the amount it means your child will miss out. Csa are very helpful and have got a lot of power so is defiantly at least worth thinking about x

Definitely go through CSA. They can even deduct the maintenance money direct from his wages if he gets really stupid about the whole thing.

He sounds very controlling "he'll buy DS clothes when he thinks he needs them" - sounds like you are well rid of him!

Please start that process today - there is no reason why your son should miss out because his biological father attempts to shirk his responsibilities. Details of how to apply are here.

Do make sure that you keep a detailed note of all your contact with the CSA - note the day and time of each call and the name of the person you spoke to.

Go through the Csa.

I agreed years ago to a lower amount along with shoes, coats, trainers and uniform. Sounded great until I realised my ex and I shopped in different places and had different views on when things needed replacing!

Be under no illusion though. The CSA aren't actually all that good at what they do.

I was a willing payer and went to the CSA myself.
