how as a lay person can I get my hands on a copy of what was said

there was a thread ages ago about 2 children being adopted - and all sorts of stuff I didn't realise was in the public domain

this isnth related to that but it is clear the judges rulings are written Dow somewhere

what type of case? all court hearings are electronically recorded and you can apply for a copy of the transcript unless it is in closed court (normally family proceedings). you have to pay though.

I don't mind paying it was a crown court "mention" hearing.

I assume that the victims name wouldnt be in the transcript - if it was the sort of case where a victims name would normally not be published.

I think it is very unlikely you will be able to get a transcript of a 'mention' tbh but I don't 'do' crime anymore so not sure. What do you want to know? Can you not make enquiries with the CPS or victim support (if appropriate) or the Defendant or his solicitors (if appropriate)?

I think written transcriptions are only done (from the audio recording) if the case is going to appeal. No idea if you request an audio copy.

CPS have been very helpful so I have a good idea of what happened, I just want to know exactly, however, I think I am going to have to come to terms with the fact I will never know exactly what has happened, exh was at the hearing and he couldn't follow all the legal arguments.

The proceedings were "stayed", which is not what the evil bastard defendant is telling people, his version of what happened, is that he has been found innocent because the judge believed in him, having spoken to the CPS, nothing is further from the truth and it was down to a legal technicality.

All business cases are recorded. You need to ask the court for the recording and they send it to a transcription company whom you hire - details are on line. I do not know about criminal cases. Search on google court transcription services and ring up one of the companies who do the typing up and ask them. It is a long job to type the stuff up though, might cost a few hundred.

thanks both - I don't think I am going to get what I want - which is hard to come to terms with - but then so is the decision.
