well technically, a will can be written on any old scrap of paper (or indeed eggshell) but you have to make sure it covers everything and most importantly, it is executed correctly in accordance to the rules set out in the Wills Act. I've read on a number of occasions about wills not being executed correctly and therefore either not being valid or gifts to beneficiaries failing.

Presumably your DH has PR of the DC (assuming they are his too) in any event. You would need to appoint executors as well.

Main thing to ensure is that the will is witnessed by two independant witnesses (not your husband or any beneficiary) and that they actually do witness your signature.

I wouldn't take any chances with this, I'd highly recommend Mumblechum a Mumsnetter who is an experienced lawyer and wills writer and who has her own business. She has a paid for advert in small businesses. she charges significantly less than a High street firm and many Mners hae used her.

Another recommendation for mumblechum. Wills really are too important to try and DIY.

I would wait til it's Will Aid Month and get a proper will done by a solicetor. You don't pay a fee but you are asked to make a donation, which is split between 9 charities (NSPCC, AgeUK etc)
Will Aid takes place in November.
