Court information

Can anyone tell me how I would find out what someone has been charged with, when the court hearing is and what the verdict was?

I don't want to go into details as it would be obvious who I am but I was (for want of a better description) dragged into a situation, lied to and various other things. I've managed to get out of it mostly (still getting messages from other person) and would like to find out what is going on.

Thanks in advance, Daisychicken

Is it a criminal or civil case? Are you getting messages from someone who has been charged with an offence? Are you a witness?

Its classed as a criminal case I think and I've managed to find out that the case was heard today at the Crown Court but nothing else. It's the plaintiff who keeps contacting me (long story but caused a lot of trouble for me and my DH through her actions)...

Thanks, I've used those to find the court date but can't seem to get any further... perhaps the information is not given out to public..... Annoying because if she contacts again, I'm just going to get lied to further....

Have you tried the website for the particular court? You could also phone them. Most cases are open to the public, and are a matter of public record...it's just knowing where to look for the information.

Why not have it out with this person?

I would suggest you wait until, say, the beginning of next week to allow time for Court papers to return to the relevant admin dept and phone to ask what verdict was given in the case of (give name) which was heard on today's date.

If the matter was heard at a Crown Court are you certain this woman is the Plaintiff as it would seem more probable that she is/was the Defendant, or possiby one of the witnesses in a trial by jury? If this is the case, the matter will be referred to as R. v (her name).

Ok, I can phone up and ask in the next few days/next week - thank you for advice.

I can't go into detail but it's her ex who is the defendant. I can't have it out with her due to everything that has gone on and I'm trying hard not to be in contact with her - I just get constant texts off her now (which I ignore). I would just like to know what the court verdict is as then I will have a better idea as to what is true or not from the texts (not that I intend to reply!).

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!

If it's heard at a Crown Court it will be the criminal matter of R. (i.e. Regina as in HM The Queen) v. Defendant's name and there is no reason why you should not be told the verdict.

However, if this was a trial by jury, it may be heard over the course of a few days and the verdict may be not in. It can also be the case that sentence is adjourned pending reports which may necessitate a call at a later date.

Phone the number for the court in question and ask to be put through to either results or court support. As izzy said the results are a matter of public record. Be aware that court admin are ridiculously short staffed at present so may or may not be prepared to assist you.

this is the live case thing on the justice website - we use the full version to obtain our results. Not sure if it gives verdicts or just the progress of the case in question - but you will be able to obtain the T number (case number) which will help you when making enquiries with the admin office.
