Claim on estate after beneficiaries have been paid

I'm hoping somebody can advise me on this matter as my mum is becoming quite anxious. I apologise if I have not used the correct terminology in parts.

My uncle died earlier this year and named my mum and aunt as executors of the will. Prior to his death, he had lived with my mum for 2 years as he was in very poor health.

They subsequently appointed a solicitor to deal with everything. The DWP did write to my mum to ask some financial information and she passed the letter onto the solicitors who, we understand, responded to the DWP.

The will was settled a month or so ago and beneficiaries were paid out.

The DWP has now written to my mum saying that they feel there may have been an overpayment and are asking for lots of financial information going back to 2003. My mum or aunt have no way of knowing this information and would have to contact his bank - who I assume would only give out information to whoever had probate (solicitor?)

Should my mum just pass this request on to the solicitors - even though the will is now "settled"?

TIA

Yes, she should, as soon as possible. The solicitors should not have allowed the estate to be paid out to the beneficiaries without first ensuring that everything was settled with the DWP.

Many thanks for your reply AINTY. I was thinking the same.
