PPI Claim Company

Hi,

I was in town some time ago and was stopped by someone from a PPI claim company offering their services. I filled in a form to (I thought) get information on claiming back PPI money.

They later sent me a later saying what to do next (send them account numbers, etc). I ignored this letter and binned it as i'd seen on moneysavingexpert that it was easy to claim yourself.

Anyway today I received another letter from the company asking again for the information. At the bottom of the letter it said Failure to do this may result in you being liable for up to £500. This would be due to a breach of clause 3.2 of our contract which you have signed.

It's my own stupid fault but i didn't realise i was entering into a contract and now i'm worried that unless i send the info they'll be coming after me for this money. Can they do this?

I'm aware i've brought this on myself but any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated.

Sounds very dodgy to me. I hope someone can come along who knows more about it..

RindersGoesForGold · 13/08/2012 15:06

Sounds very dodgy to me too. Have you posted on MSE about it? There may be similar experiences/help available on there.

DawnOfTheDee · 13/08/2012 15:09

What's MSE?

"may result in you being liable for up to £500"

that's a very ambiguous statement. 'May' and 'Upto'.
I wonder if it's just a way of getting you to respond.

DawnOfTheDee · 13/08/2012 15:23

I thought that Fanjo....am hoping it's just a 'scare tactic'.

Don't respond, IMO they are just trying it on. If you did sign some kind of contract (and you may not have) it's probably unfair and unenforcable.

If you are worried, it might be worth contacting your local trading standards.

Thanks MrsSquirrel.

I used to be really rubbish with money but have worked hard over the past few years to sort myself out. I've managed to pay off a loan and credit card - it's so nice not to be in that kind of debt. This stupid letter just made me get that horrible 'fear' type feeling that i used to get when i was skint.

I know that feeling - horrible
