Faulty product - only just out of warranty

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong topic. I am looking to the wise MNers for some help regarding the dishwasher we bought last July from IKEA.

The dishwasher was in the sale, and we ordered it for delivery. By the time came for ours to be delivered, they had run out of stock, so the floor model was sent to us (with our agreement, of course). It arrived fully made up by the IKEA team, so we didn't have to do anything.

Unfortunately, the decorative door has now started falling off, often onto our toes (and those doors are very heavy, as they have to hold the whole front of the dishwasher down when loading). We have approached IKEA for some advice regarding repair/replacement, but they have referred us to Whirlpool, the manufacturers.

My understanding was that the vendor was responsible for this, and as it is only just out of warranty it is clearly not fit for purpose. Should we continue to pursue IKEA for some help, or is it indeed the manufacturer who should step in at this point?

Sorry this is so long - thanks for reading this far!

You are correct that your rights are against IKEA, although you may find that Whirlpool is willing to help. If you do pursue IKEA, as the dishwasher is over 6 months old it will be up to you to prove that the fault is not ordinary wear & tear or damage you caused and that it should have lasted longer than it has. You may need to get a report from an expert to back up your case.

Sorry - I got distracted by the diving! Thanks for that. I'll get back on to Ikea, and see what happens. Thanks again.
