Can anyone help me please. My son took a recording of himself at a school show. The piece he preformed was written by him for his GCSE Drama exam. SO all his own work. There was nothing on the video that would identify the school. He posted the vidoe on you tube. ( He recieved some nasty comments from some of his fellow pupils , but this is by the by).
He did recieve a text from a YEAR 11 boy, describing himself as Director Of Media , telling my soon to delete all recordings he had taken that night on my IPAd and to take his recording of himself off You Tube otherwise they would issue legal proceedings against him. He was also told a copy of the text would be sent to the Headmaster.
Can a 16year old, have such authority from a school ?
As my son is only 15 years old, surely any proceedings would have to be taken against us as parents.
The video he posted was only of himself, no other person is identifiable, and it is all his own work, so how does the school own the rights ?
Do you think it is bad form for the School to firstly allow a child to send out messages threatening legal proceedings , and secondly, for a school to immediately threaren legal proceedings against one of its students?
Finally under what legislation would they /could they take proceedings.
I am upset by this and my son was frightened, I intend to go and see the Head tomorrow to discuss this, so any advive, help would really be appreciated.
Thank you.
Honeyjar.
