Is it possible once a child reaches adulthood to sue a parent for not financially supporting them?

inspired by another thread Wink

Say for example they didn't pay child support and buggered off without contact or contribution.

Can a child sue for past monies?

No.

I assume this is the stressed20 thread? How awful...

So if the parent was really wealthy and avoided contributing for the entire childhood the child can't sue ? - quite surprised by that actually.

Why are you surprised?

LaurieFairyCake · 12/07/2012 13:46

I thought I'd read that Cecil Parkinson's daughter did that - must be mistaken.

If a child is over 18, and is in higher education, they can apply for continuing financial support, which might or might not include payment of capital to meet needs (say for tuition fees). However maintenance cannot be backdated to a date before the application was issued.

I think the big problem is that most of these useless men have no money.
Even if a judge did award an adult child a lot of money then it would be a joke enforcing the order. All that would happen is that useless git would have another county court judgement against him.

If the parent could not get money out of the useless tosser in the first place then what hope has the child. Surely that is what the child support agency is for.

Oops. Raw nerve?

What amazes me is how many people have children with useless tossers.
