Moving back in with EX - Platonically

If I moved back in with my ex-partner and father of my child can we be treated as financially separate for wtc, housing benefit etc.

We get on well but we are never going to get back together as couple. I'm currently studying so on a low income and life would be so much easier for childcare, work etc if we lived together.

Not sure the DWP would believe you so easily.

I know, so is there anything we could do/sign so that they do believe it.

Like what - a weekly medical to confirm you haven't had sex with each other? Grin

I suppose if you divorced then married someone that would be convincing enough but can't think anything else would be.

Another point is that your child would be living with both parents. How do you work out child related benefits?

You can't get Housing Benefit if renting from an ex partner or parent of your child, that's considered on of the tests for non-commercial rental agreement.

You can get tax credits and other benefits as a single person while in the same house its hard to prove and is likely to be challenged, you must not do any of the usual tasks that a couple share so no cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, shopping for him etc, keep food in separate cupboards

Even after all that it's likely to get challenged but you can appeal.

Thanks for all the advice, I don't think I'll bother.
