what happens when somebody dies who's self employed? does this not cause problems for whomever is left behind and has to fill in their tax return... personal experiences, anybody?

and is it different writing a will if you're self employed?

thank you

STEP is really more for people who do the broader range of trusts and estates work, rather than exclusively Wills - and members need to be competent in all areas to be admitted (which I'm guessing is probably not relevant for you mumblechum if you only do Will writing). I know a couple of legal execs who are STEP members, but they are not exclusively engaged in Will writing (they do probate, trusts and tax planning too). I also know of some accountants and investment advisors who are members. As mumblechum says, STEP publish standard form administrative provisions for Wills which are widely used by all professionals who write Wills (e.g. I would always use them when applying for an Order for a statutory Will, as they are instantly recognised and accepted by the Courts).

What area are you in OP? Maybe someone can make a personal recommendation (if you don't want to work with mumblechum via correspondence, or if she is not local to you).
