CE Markings

Can anyone advise on CE markings for packaging? Am thinking of getting some stuff done for kids to play with (mainly paper/printed) and as far as I can see it wouldn't need checking and could be self-regulated.

However, I can't find a definitive guide anywhere. Can you help?

You only have to CE mark if it's a requirement of an EU Directive that your product meets certain essential requirements.

According to Wikipedia, CE marking affects the following product areas:

Active implantable medical devices
Appliances burning gaseous fuels
Cableway installations designed to carry persons
Eco-design of energy related products
Electromagnetic compatibility
Equipment and protective systems intended for use potentially explosive atmospheres
Explosives for civil uses
Hot-water boilers
In vitro diagnostic medical devices
Lifts
Low voltage
Machinery
Measuring Instruments
Medical devices
Noise emission in the environment
Non-automatic weighing instruments
Personal protective equipment
Pressure equipment
Pyrotechnics
Radio and telecommunications terminal equipment
Recreational craft
Safety of toys
Simple pressure vessels

Beginner's guide to CE marking here.

Complying with a relevant standard might aid CE marking but it is a slightly different area. The best startign point for anything to do with standards is to contact BSI (British Standards Institute), who will be able to tell you if there is a relevant standard and sell you a copy if necessary.
