McKenzie Friend

My DP is about to start representing himself in the family court and his solicitor suggested that I be his McKenzie Friend. He's been advised to write to the court stating/requesting that I be his MF and include my CV. As I have no legal qualifications what sort of things should go in the CV? I do have other professional qualifications and experience that could be included.

I'd be grateful if anyone could give me some advice.

Just Fab, the idea is that the MF can not be a witness. So the OP should not be a MF as she is likely to be interviewed by Cafcass and quite possibly also file a statement and give oral evidence.

So when you say the MF can't be personally involved with the defendant/complainant that is only the case if they are a witness as well?

BB Nay lass, it's bin AR since I were in short trowzers and it'll allus be AR.

Anyway, I guess who joins them in will depend on circs, ie who the third party is, and wouldn't it have to be approved by the DJ anyway?

MOS now now, no need for any more headbanging. Come back to the dayroom lovey, Countdown'll be on in a minute and there's rice pudding for tea.

mumblechum1 · 08/05/2012 14:37

Justfab, yes you've got it.

mumblechum1 · 08/05/2012 14:39

Subject to what BB said in her link, obv.

JustFab · 08/05/2012 14:50

my exp on one hearing had as his MF, a barrister - who couldnt represent him as a barrister because he was his friend. and he felt it woulod not be appropriate to be his barrister.

but i was happy for him to be his MF.

in fact it helped enormously as he talked sense ... unlike exp

but if it had been a new partner then no i would not have been happy.
friend yes but new involved partner no.
espec if issues are about the children.

maybe op's P can sound out from the mother whether she will object or not rather than leave it to hearing day
