NOT MARRIED

Myself and my partner are not married. We have been together nearly 15 years, have 2 children and a house in joint names.

So far we don't have wills (i know that's stupid). My partner has a pension but as i was self employed before becoming a full time mum i never started one.

I've realised recently that i am probably in a vulnerable position.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Maybe give this a read.

I would get wills sorted asap though. Make sure everything is down on paper, so there can be no misunderstandings!

Because you aren't married, the survivor of you has no automatic right to anything (subject to whether you hold your house as joint tenants or tenants in common), so certainly wills would be a good idea.

Who has your partner nominated as beneficiary under his pension scheme? Usually these days a cohabitee can be nominated, but occasionally it will only cover a spouse.

If you're interested in making a will, I have an advert over on Small Business Classifieds ("5* Will Writing Service Recommended by Mumsnetters").
