technically they do not have to accept items back if there is nothing wrong with them.
i am guessing that with underwear they have some kind of hygiene rule

most shops will refund out of goodwill, but they don't have to i'm afraid

might be worth seeing if you can exchange them at a different branch or something ust in case?

Megastar · 09/04/2012 21:01

I bought 2 bras in a sainsburys about two weeks ago and changed them for a different size without any problems. Try again when manager isnt there!

bettykelly123 · 09/04/2012 21:08

it was the cocky attitude that annoyed me. i asked where it was in their policy and he said it wasnt. so how can you win with them!!!!!

I would have classed them under the swimwear category- in other words as items of apparel for intimate wear.

Nowhere actually has to return any item unless they are actually faulty.

DaisySteiner · 10/04/2012 11:47

I would phone Sainsbury's main customer services line. IME they can often kick stroppy store managers' arses sort something out.

cansu · 11/04/2012 15:55

Continue to complain about it. Ask for copy of returns policy and go through with store manager. Bras are not compromised by being tried on and are no more intimate than a t shirt for gods sake. If they will return swimwear then there is no reason to not exchange bras. I had a discussion with Tescos about returns and after twenty minutes they capitulated because I pointed out that said policy on return of pizzas was not displayed anywhere.

And say you have had to make two extra journeys - you'll get a gift card with some money to cover pertol costs and cost of inconvenience.

HarrietSchulenberg · 11/04/2012 16:02

Bras are not classed as "items of intimate wear". That refers to pants or anything that might have been round your nether regions and runs a risk of having your bodily hair and juices upon it.

There really should be no problem with a straight exchange for a bra in it's original packaging.

well well well. this is a long story so grab a drink. the night the manager refused to take the bras back i asked for the name of his manager. you wont believe it but he gave the name of his friend at the store!!!!!!! and to top it all he was only the acting manager for the day as it was bank holiday monday.
the next morning i looked the store up online and found out the manager was called lets say john smith. so i phoned and asked to speak to the manager. they asked what it was in relation to and i told them it was to do with an incident the night before. i was put through to "Faye" and i said sorry faye i dont want to talk to you i want the manager "John". she then forgot to put the mute button on. and called for "John" to come and relayed the story to him but what made me so MAD was she told him i tried to return knickers and started to kick off when poor "simon" told her they didnt return knickers. she made me out to sound like a mad woman. obviously her and simon had talked about what had happeded and she agreed to cover for him or something in the hope i would fall for it and then i would go away when she spoke to me. my blood was boiling but i stayed sooooo calm when the real manager came on the phone. i started by saying hi "john" can i start by saying i heard that whole conversation and for the record i didnt try to return knickers they were bras!!!!!! he was so embarrised. to cut a long story short his staff were cought wrotten and yes the policy is they return bras and even knickers. the man who was on customer services spoke to the manager and said i wasnt agressive or anything and that "simon" was bang out of order with his attitude. i got a full a4 letter of apology and £30 in gift vouchers. to be honest the vouchers are nice but to know i was right all along means sooooo much to me. i was also told he would be dealing with simon and faye but couldnt tell me due to data protection what would be happening to them etc but i know he was really mad when i explained all to him. i was in sainsburys this morning and saw "simon" stocking veg and i walked passed and said morning simon and keep pushing the trolley. was that mean!!!!!! Wink

Well done you! I'm assuming that you tried to return them tags on as you realised the size was wrong? What a horrible man! Thank God their unprofessional-ism extended so far as to not know how to mute the phone!

Ahem I have actually returned (unworn!) maternity swimwear to MCare too, as when I got home the hanger said size 12 but the tag said size 8 Blush they were sooooooo lovely, exchanged fine and didn't charge the extra £4.00 for the other costume I selected instead (they had no more the same), as a goodwill gesture for having to pay to get back in to exchange them. I frickin love my local Mcare.

PetitDemiWit · 12/04/2012 18:21

Nice one! This made me laugh!

I had something vaguely similar - had to send a cheque for my DS's school transport. I phoned the transport office who told me that the cheque could be made out to West Yorks Passenger Transport Authority, or WMPTE. I'm all for saving effort so i made the cheque out to the initals rather than the full name. The cheque was duly returned with a post-it from the "simon" in that department, on which he had written "look what this NUMPTY has written"! Obviously not meant for my eyes!

They were v embarrassed by the whole numpty reference when I called them back!

bettykelly123 · 16/04/2012 20:39

it just makes me so mad when i know more about their job than they do. simon obviously doent know much about bras lol x
