Is there a way to find out about cases being heard in our local court?

My office is close to a crown court and we are currently having one of those cases where there is a huge police convoy taking some person or persons to and from wherever they are on remand.

We are nosy and want to know why such a hooha, local news is strangely quiet. I've found thelawpages.com which tells me the name of defendants but not what the offence is...is there a way of finding out? the council send me to a HMCourt services website which doesn't want to tell me anything much about anything!

You can walk into the court and see which cases are listed for the day.

I'd love to but don't get a long enough break...I wonder if I can bribe someone from the offices downstairs to go?

Google the names you already have and see if there are any previous news articles about them being arrested or charged.

Try this site: xhibit.justice.gov.uk/xhibit/court_lists.htm

Ooops, ignore that. That site doesn't give info on charges.

Our local paper is bobbins, nothing about any of them that I can find! Ah well, curiosity killed the cat and all that :)

Try courtserve daily listings. It won't tell you what offence though. You would have to go into the court hearing. It's open to the public.

Courts do expect the public to ring and check if a case is on, but they won't discuss the case with you.

You may find that the press can not report the case until after the verdict.

That's a good point about reporting restrictions, wheredidiputit, I think I'm just so used to reading about ongoing cases in the paper that I forgot some of them are not reportable-on.

I think I found courtserve, I found one where it listed the defendents and gave a case number. I think I'm a frustrated legal something or other :) or maybe I should've joined the poliss, except I can't even tell off my toddler convincingly.
