Hi, I'm not sure if this is in the right place, I apologise if it's not.
My Great Grandmother Ally died in May this year, but relationships between our families have been strained for about 20 years. My mother did not have a relationship with any of her large family except from GG Ally, whom she kept in touch with via letter until a few months before she died as she was bed ridden and could not write (un beknown to us). We believe she did have a will but have no idea whether we were included in any way. We worry that the rest of the family will say they that we are estranged and so are entitled to nothing. Is there a way we can find out? In all honestly we arn't interested in any material things but my mum would have loved to have chosen a keepsake or token in memory of GG Ally as she collected different ornaments etc. Sorry we are both naive in this area so any views welcomed. Thank you for your replies

Hi :) There's info on here. It says to contact the District Probate Registry which is part of HM Court services. There's a £5 fee. I hope this helps.

If you were included, then a solicitor would be legally bound to honour the terms of the will IF she had left one lodged somewhere official.

Your Mum could contact the family & ask for permission to have a token keepsake out of her collection, but if they are estranged I'd not hold out much hope!
