If I store my will here - link What happens when I wish to revise it?

Can I just send a new one or do I need to do a codocil?

Thank you

You could just pop into your local solicitor who will no doubt store it for free. You can then access it any time.
If your in Lewes we would.

You can get your original will back at any time by sending to the Principal Probate registry in London Form PA7A.

If you're doing a completely new will, then you should send the new one in in the same way that you registered your old one, and ask for the old one back at the same time.

If you want to do a codicil you send it to them with details of the original will and they'll put the codicil with the will.

I work for a firm of High Street Solicitors as well as doing freelance will writing, and in my firm, we wouldn't store a non-client's will for free.

Thank you very useful mumblechum

Legalduck -I too have come up against sol costs. This is also searchable by anyone rather than investigating which sol I have stored with

It's a good system. I'm a will writer and don't do wills storage at the moment (but will have to get my act together to do so & sort out the insurance and safe sometime), and in the meantime I recommend the Probate Service to all my clients as it's way cheaper than the other options and as it's Government run, is unlikely to mess up, which some small firms do.

Yes Toothbrush Thief-I think we all have but the cost of a Will is reasonable with many high street solicitors, the storage service is usually free. A solicitor who charges is quite short sighted as it introduces new customers to the firm.
The Central Registry is a lovely place but can take an age (weeks) to find things and charges for that pleasure. In my experience, some Will Writing companies will add a huge premium for storage.
From a practical point, having experienced an office fire with a small high street firm. On return to the office, I was stuck to find that the only thing standing in the middle of the room was the fireproof storage safe. The Wills, deeds and other documents were warm and a little smelly but untouched. I cannot imagine this happening in a private house.
